The Voluntary Sector by Alan Reeves St. Georges PE Dept, Gravesend
The voluntary sector includes sports clubs who offer opportunities to play competitive sport

How to identify voluntary sector clubs:
- They provide for competitive sports
- They only offer opportunities for one sport
- They are funded by members on a yearly membership basis and charge fees for individual matches as well
- They rarely own their own facilities and will hire facilities from the public sector
- They may receive sponsorship from local businesses
- They are managed by a committee voted for by the members
- They are usually named after their town or city
- They are not trying to make a profit
- They have to be affiliated through the National Governing Body
In summary, voluntary sector clubs are funded and run by members for the benefit of all the members. The aim being to provide opportunities to be involved in sport on a competitive level. If you look at the sports you are involved in outside school or college it is very likely that it will be through the voluntary sector.
