The Public Sector by Alan Reeves St. Georges PE Dept, Gravesend

How to identify public sector facilities
- They are funded by money from the Local Council
- They are large in size
- They are usually named after the town, city or area
- They are priced to be available to everyone rather than to exclude people
- They offer facilities for team and individual sports
- Their facilities offer sports opportunities rather than comfort or luxury
- The people who work there are employed by the Local Council
- They often receive grants from Sport England or National Governing Bodies of sport
Public sector facilities are provided by local authorities with the aim of offering people a positive activity to do in their leisure time. These facilities often lose money as they do not charge enough money for entrance or membership to make a profit. However, this is not important because they want to improve the quality of people’s lives and offer them the benefits of taking part in sport.
