The Public Sector

The Public Sector by Alan Reeves St. Georges PE Dept, Gravesend

How to identify public sector facilities

  1. They are funded by money from the Local Council
  2. They are large in size
  3. They are usually named after the town, city or area
  4. They are priced to be available to everyone rather than to exclude people
  5. They offer facilities for team and individual sports
  6. Their facilities offer sports opportunities rather than comfort or luxury
  7. The people who work there are employed by the Local Council
  8. They often receive grants from Sport England or National Governing Bodies of sport
Public sector facilities are provided by local authorities with the aim of offering people a positive activity to do in their leisure time. These facilities often lose money as they do not charge enough money for entrance or membership to make a profit. However, this is not important because they want to improve the quality of people’s lives and offer them the benefits of taking part in sport.
