HOW TO PASS FOOTBALL COACHING COURSES

Developing Attacks from the Defending 3rd
in a Functional Practice

Organisation

  • 6 v 6
  • Pitch is from the edge of the centre circle.
  • Place a target goal there.
  • Reds can score from anywhere and encourage them to shoot early.
  • Starting position is midfielder 1 passes back to the centre back or a designated server.

The server passes to the full back. Look for open body position, the ball should be played in front of him. The wide midfield player now comes short and the full back plays a soft pass to his feet. The midfielder plays it back to the full backs favoured foot, who has offered him an angle.

Now can the full back play to the-

  • centre forwards
  • midfield
  • square

Centre forwards runs-

  • Can he come short
  • Can we put the ball behind them to run onto.

Midfield play-

  • Can one show short
  • Can one go between the strikers if they split
  • Can they shuffle along

Now coach two alternative moves, e.g. wide midfield player can you shield the ball and then play it centrally. Look for full back to overlap and central midfielder to play him in as in diagram.
