Drag the defender to the front part of the grid, get his weight on his
front foot so now you can turn/spin off him. Try and come in half turned.
Does it make a difference if I come in at an angle ? If you go down the
line of the ball (straight at the ball), the defender will be right behind
you. You will have to turn 180 degrees. If you do come down the line of
the ball shield it/protect it and try to turn around or away from him. Use
the width of the ball to flick it over his foot, pass around him or how
about a Cruyff turn.
Step away and take him further away from the ball, when he steps forward
bang your gone. The attacker can run out of the grid but not the ball.
Use your body to shield/block the defender if there is enough pace on the
ball. Spin off him and your gone. Server look for clues and slot him in.
Can we get the defender to come forward so his weight is on his front foot,
once you have him traveling bang that's when the server plays the ball in.
It will give you the extra half a second you need to get away. Remember
once you have done it once or twice the defender won't let you do it again.
You may need the ball in front. I want an open angle is I can run onto the
ball half turned and I might go first touch pass him. Make your angle early
and drop in short.
Now for 30 seconds you get a license to do your own thing/trick. Its your
own lack of imagination that will do you in.
Severs mix it up short and long. If the defender comes tight can you use
the pace of the ball to flick it around him with the outside of your boot.
Try to watch the defender as well as the ball, is he ball watching, if so
bang your gone.
Can you get your backside into him and kill the ball. You must be in a position
to receive the ball and the pace of the ball must be sharp to stop the defender
nicking it.
