Transfer Play

Organisation

  • Grid 40 yds long x 20 yds wide.
  • Two grids of 20 x 20 divided in the middle.
  • Play 4 v 2 in one area.
  • Deliver a pass to the other grid (3 v 1) and transfer the ball to a player on the end line.
  • As the ball crosses to the other grid, one attacker and one defender cross the centre line to make it 4 v 2.
  • Ball must be delivered to a player on the end line.

Key Points

  1. Awareness of playing situation when in possession
  2. Possession play until able to pass ball forward to the far grid.
  3. Disguise passes.
  4. Quality of passing-accuracy, speed, variety of surfaces.

Support Play

  1. 'Open' up as a team.
  2. Angle, distance and timing of support
  3. Quick support as the ball is transferred to the other group.
