Dealing With The Back Pass

Practises.

1. One or Two

From a distance of 10-15 yds the server plays the ball at various heights and speeds to the goalkeeper. As he passes the server shouts 1 or 2 and the Keeper must respond by making the appropriate number of touches.

2. Closing Down Quickly
  •  With four players in a 20 yds x 20 yds grid.
  • Player 1 passes to anyone (here 4) and then closes them down.
  • Player 4 then controls and passes with a maximum of 2 touches to player 2 or 3.
  • He then closes the player he passed to down.

Vary the height and pace of the pass, when receiving let the player know he's getting it. Players 2 and 3 should give good supporting angles. When receiving the ball don't be afraid to side foot.

3. Pressure in the Box

Three players pass the ball around in the penalty area. When the Coach shouts "PASS" the man with the ball passes back to the goalkeeper and then runs in to shut him down. The other two players act as defenders and spin off to give a good supporting angle.
