Technique of Ball Control

Ball Control: Facing the opponent on the ground and in the air
Key Factors
  1. Get into the line of flight of the ball
  2. Select the controlling surface early
  3. Be mentakky relaxed (confident)
  4. Keep the head steady
  5. Watch the ball on to the controlling surface
Organisation, Direction and Progression

  • 20 x 30 play the ball on the ground X1-X2 wide of player
  • Control and play the ball back using 2 touch
  • Introduce either 01 or O2 to close on X1
  • Introduce either Y1 or Y2 to close on X2
  • Both O1 and O2 close on X1 or Y1 and Y2 on X2
  • 20 x 40 play the ball in the air
  • Decision on which serface
  • Desision on type of control
    • Wedge
    • Cushion
  • 20 x 40 with O1 or O2 serving to X1 to pass to X2.X2 must control the ball away from the challenge of Y1 or Y2
  • The control must create a passing angle
  • Observe the number of touches and the quality of pass
  • Introduce both O1 and O2 to serve and pressure X1 and the same applies to Y1 and Y2 on X2

Organisation, Direction and Progression

  • A.GK seves to O1 who plays the ball to X1 or X2 with variety of services
  • X1 and X2 are 2v1 with O2
  • They must get to the end of the grid as quickly as possible
  • Develop with O2 introduced as soon as X1 or X2 touch the ball
Observation
  • No more than 1 pass in front of O1
  • If X1 is not attacking at speed then O1 must be run past X2 into the space behind O1
  • B.Develop to 3v2 and GK
  • Observe the ability to
    • Isolate defender
    • Attack defenders at speed
    • Draw defenders to one side
    • Spreading Defenders by moving away from the ball

Ball Control: Requiring to turn
Key Factors
  • Quality of pass
  • Quality of supporting angles
  • Feint to go one way then go the other way
  • X2 must either turn and play to O1 or play the ball to X1
  • X2 must receive the furthest from his opponent-screen the ball
  • The first touch is very important
  • The first touch can take the ball away by using either the inside or outside of thr front foot across the body away from the opponent
  • Important to use disguise with good body movement
Organisation, Direction and Progression
  • A.X1 plays to X2 who either turns and plays to O1 or Plays the ball to X1 who makes an angle and passes to O1
  • Practice repeated with O1 serving O2
  • B.Progress so that X2 must make an angle to shoot at goal
