Attacking 2 v 2

CROSS OVERS WITH AND WITHOUT THE BALL

KEY FACTORS

  • Players should play with their heads up to note the position of each others movement
  • Players should act quickly and decisively
  • Players should try technically difficult moves
  • Players on the ball stop it for their partner to take
  • Whilst the ball is travelling from S3 to either Sl or S2 XI and X2 create space - first movement away
  • Both XI and X2 check back to pull 01 and 02 square
  • First touch of player
  • The ball on the outside and away from opponent (safe side)
  • Observation with player with the ball
  • Either "TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT' command must be given by the player with the ball
  • Spin movement towards goal

ATTACKING 2 V 2 OVERLAPS

KEY FACTORS

  • Player on the ball must have a positive attitude
  • Players must play with their heads up to observe the movements of their team
  • Player Xl attacks inside
  • X2 observes and makes an overlap run - timing - communication - curved run
  • Xl can go inside and
    • Continue to strike at goal
    • Play a reverse pass to X2
  • 02 is a recovering opponent

ORGANISATION, DIRECTION AND PROGRESSION

  • Sl serves to XI or X2 who attack the inside of opponent 01
  • 02 recovering defender only in play after XI or X2 take a first touch
  • Progress to underiap if the defender holds XI to the line

ATTACKING 2 V 2 WALL PASSES

KEY FACTORS

  • Xl or X2 should commit 01 by dribbling directly at 01
  • Player with the ball should release when 01 is drawn towards Xl or X2
  • Use disguise - play off the front foot
  • The pass should be played to the wall players feet The wall player should be positioned at the correct angle and distance

ORGANISATION, DIRECTION AND PROGRESSION

  • SI plays the ball to either Xl or X2
  • X2 (who was served the ball) attacks 01
  • Xl provides "wall"
  • 02 can be introduced as a recovering defender
  • Progress so that play is 2 v 2 in free play - players to access opportunities to wall pass

ATTACKING 2 V 2 DIAGONAL RUNS

KEY FACTORS

  • Players play with heads up to see position of players and others movement
  • Players must be decisive and also direct
  • Movement of player off the ball

TO CREATE SPACE

  • Diagram A. XI takes the ball into created by the diagonal run of X2
  • Diagram B. X2 can also run across opponent 01 to screen the movement of XI

TO EXPLOIT SPACE

  • Diagram C. XI can also bring the ball inside and then play the ball between defenders for X2 (reverse pass)
  • Diagram D. XI Can also play X2 in with a inventive pass outside or bring the ball in and again reverse pass for X2
