  • One Goalkeeper and three Defenders must stop three Attackers from turning and scoring.
  • There are three servers who pass the ball around until an Attacker creates space and then they pass to him.

Key Points

  1. Switch on, always be alert.
  2. Pressure the ball. Nearest man goes to the ball, travel or close down while the ball is travelling.
  3. Decision, can I
  4. Technique of first player,
    • Move quickly
    • slow down on approach,
    • touch tight,
    • Angle your body one way, show him where you want him to go.
    • Face the same way,
    • Be patient
    • Be aggressive.
  5. Support play or Cover.
    • Communication, e.g. Shout "Show him the line" or "Get tight".
    • Angle of Cover, depends on your position on the pitch and position of other players. You should try to form a triangle and the Goalkeeper should be able to sweep up behind you. Remember open body position.
    • Distance of Cover. This depends on
      1. How quick the Forward is,
      2. Which area of the Pitch the play is on,
      3. Your angle of Approach.
  6.  Compactness. If your nearest man has the ball stay tight,if not act as cover.
  7. Recovery Runs. Once the Attacker gets past you get goalside as soon as possible. Once you are goalside reaccess your position. Can I
    • Win the Ball back,
    • Cover the challenging player,
    • Mark someone,
    • Mark space.
