Shooting Gallery

Organisation
  • Grid is 40 x 40 yards.
  • 16 players and 4 goals.
  • Each of four portable goals is on eac sideline of a 40 x 40 yard grid.
  • A goalkeeper is in each goal.
  • Three players line up at the right post of each goal facing the opposite goal.
  • Each player except the first player in lines A and B has a ball.
  • The coach stands in the middle of the grid.

Exercise

  • X1 and X3 sprint to the middle of the grid,
  • They run around the coach,
  • Show to X2 and X4 respectively,
  • Receive a pass from those players, and shoot on goals C and D respectively.
  • Following each shot, the shooter sprints to rerieive the ball and joins the end of the line at the goal at which the shot was taken.
  • X2 and X4 continue in the same manner, and this rotation is followed throughout the drill.
  • No shot may be taken within 10 yards of the goal.
Variations
  1. Players take two or one touch shots
  2. Vary the types of passes to encourage volley, side volley, or half volley shots.
  3. Move the goals closer and have passers take throwins to encourage head shots.
