Key Points
- Get into Line.
- Up the Line.
- Set for Save.
- Technique of Save.
- Second Save.
The goalkeeper should be working in an arc shape around the goal so that the size
of the angle is proportional to the distance the goalkeeper has to come down the
line. The whole point of positioning is to reduce the amount of goal shown to
the shooter so that if he is in a wide position his view of the goal is already
diminished. The experienced keeper will narrow the angle quickly by cutting the
digonal, gliding into line and up the line in one movement (Alex Welsh (1998)
The Goalkeepers Handbook A&C Black).
Position of Goalkeeper relative to position of attacker.

Players throw the ball to each other and take
potshots at any time.Look at keepers movement of legs and the arc theory
as above. Remember arc theory and movement of legs. |

Shooting Zones
Four zones-call a number and they shoot. The Goalkeeper starts
in the middle of his goal. Work on down the line and set. Goalkeeper should
not be beaten at the near post. Work both sides of the goal. |
|
| Turn and Save
Goalkeeper starts facing his goal. Coach shouts turn,he or
other player takes one touch out of his feet and shoots. If just Coach
and Keeper vary your position. Give the Keeper a chance. Look for Keeper
getting into line and set. |

Number the players according to how many you have, here 1-9.
Call a number and they must get the ball from out of there feet and shoot.
They should be an appropriate distance away, always give the keeper a
chance before calling the next number. You can also get players to keep
their number but go to a different position.
