A Goalkeeper and Forwards Shooting Practise

1. Warm Up
  • The server stands next to the post,
  • the Coach or player stands about 5 yards away from the Goal and the Keeper stands at the near post.
  • The server throws the ball to the Coach who shoots around and at the Keeper.
  • You can use 2 Keepers using each post.

Exercises
  1. Volley to Keeper.
  2. Half Volley.
  3. Chest then Volley.
  4. Control one foot shoot with the other.
  5. Header then Volley back.
  6. Keep up 3 times then shoot.
2. Pass and Move to Shoot
  • Players line up as X2,
  • One player is on the edge of the area, X1.
  • The first player X2 passes to X1 and then follows his ball to where X1 started.
  • X1 takes a touch around the cone and then shoots.
  • X1 then either goes back to the end of the X2 line or if you are using both sides of the goal joins the back of the other group.

Coaching Points
  • Get the ball out of your feet.
  • Take the ball a yard and be bold
  • Hit the target.
  • If you miss the target you go and get your ball.
  • Don't stop the ball,
  • Step into it as you take it.
  • Aim low across the Keeper.
  • If your whipping it in aim past the backpost and bring it back.
  • Head down don't be sloppy.
3. Playing down the Channel
  • X1 starts and passes to X2,
  • X2 passes X3 in down the channel.
  • X1 moves to X2 and X2 moves to X3.
  • X3 moves to X1.
  • X3 should make his run as soon as X1 passes.
  • Try and shoot first time and stay out of the box.
  • Hit the target.

4. Playing over the Forwards Shoulder
  • If the balls out wide.
  • X1 the Winger plays a sharp ball to X2 the full back.
  • X2 turns out and plays a high ball over X3 into the space.
  • X3 pulls off running sideways to run onto the ball.
  • X2 get it out of your feet, your first touch should be sideways.
  • The Coach can stand on the cone so X2 has to put the ball over him.
  • Once X2's foot goes back X3 should make his run.

5. Playing the Winger In
  • X1 plays the ball to the forwards feet X2, who lays the ball first time into the wingers path X3.
  • X3 can you time your run to get there as the ball gets to X2.
  • You should start your run as X1 kicks the ball.
  • X2 concentrate on your pass or flick.
