Counter Attacking from Wide Positions in a Unopposed Functional Practice

Organisation
  • Use half of the pitch.
  • You need at least 8 players plus a keeper.
  • There are two boxes 20 yds long by 15 yards wide on the half way line touching the byline.

The Game
  • In the boxes three players pass and move, one touch passing. Alternate boxes, area 1 first.
  • After six passes or on the coaches signal the ball is delivered to the nearest centre forward. Pass to feet.
All three players run out of the box to counter attack. Two players break out centrally and the other down the flank.
Player X9 or X10 plays the ball out to the wide player for a cross.
The centre forward not receiving pulls off from the cone, like he would be pulling off a defenders shoulder.
  • Two breaking players and a striker attack the cross. One player locks the edge of the area.
