Finishing from Different Angles

Organisation

  • Four servers with balls stand at the four corners of the penalty area.
  • Attackers line up in two rows and Attack in pairs.
  • Coach calls a number and the Attackers set off, that number server crosses the ball in for them to score with first time shot or header.

This is an ideal practice for headers, Volleys and half Volleys.
Progress to passive and active Defenders.

key Points
  1. Cross must eliminate the Keeper.
  2. Create space for yourself.
    • Check, stop and change direction. The easiest run to defend is a straight run.
  3. Timing of runs. Arrival or timing of Arrival is critical. Space-Ball-Man Arrives. The arrival must be as late as possible and fast
  4. Angle of Run. Angle your run to get into the ball for a better contact.
Arrival = Angle and Timing of Run.
  5. Technique on arrival. Don't try to hit the ball too hard and don't generate your own power. Let the ball do the work all you need is good contact.
    • Look for the Approach of the ball
    • and the Pace of the ball.
  6. Responsibility of Attackers. Make sure they are not standing in a line because if one misses the ball they all miss it. Decide where Attackers should attack
    • One attacks the near post.
    • One the back post.
  7. End product, Shot or Header on Goal. Use first foot to the ball and guide it past the Goalkeeper. A Diving header is the most potent weapon because Defenders rarely dive to meet the ball because of own goals. You must be aware of the position of the Goalkeeper. Plenty of good attitude. If you don't buy a ticket you can't win the lottery. So be brave..
