Considerations
- Move into position when the ball is being retrieved
and not when they are about to throw it
- For short throws mark tightly in and around the
ball including the thrower. Put heavy pressure on the first touch.
- For long throws have one player in front and one
behind the target. Look to get size for size or for an advantage.
- Remember 2-6 yards is the average flick on distance,
can we seal off this area.
- Look for second ball, be alert.
- Goalkeeper nearer the front post because it is unlikely
to go backpost.
- Know your opponents
- Coach all defensive duties. Pressure, support, marking
and compactness.
