A Good Work Out for Keeper's

  • These practices should be adjusted to the age group you are working with.
  • Give the Keepers rest and stretch regularly.
  • Work both sides.

1) Short Passes to his back foot. Using two balls players take turns at passing to the target Keeper. Coach stands in the middle and can pass to anyone. If the Coach has not got a ball the Keeper must pass to him next.

2) Same as above but to and from Hands

3) Parrying on the floor. Keeper lies flat on his side. Coach throws ball in for Keeper to parry to another player. The player then passes back to the Coach creating a "L" shape. Take turns and work both sides.

Stretches

4) High Catches. Goalkeepers line up on six yard box facing the Goal. The Coach stands on the other side of the goal and throws balls over the crossbar for the Keepers to catch in turn. Keepers must catch the ball at its highest point and throw it back.

5) Catch the ball, touch the ground with it and then throw it back to the Coach. Same set up as 4.

6) Limited View.  Keepers in goal now line up directly behind each other. Each one is given a number, when the Coach calls a number that Keeper must make the save. Call in turn then at random. Vary height and speed of shot and change Keepers round.

7) Adjusting Balance. Touch cone and save. Keeper starts two yards inside the post and only one half of the goal is used. Cones are positioned  one yard outside the post in a line. He must slide and touch the cones in turn, get back to his starting position and then make the save. Give the Keeper time to get back and set himself.

8) Knock cones over and save
9) Quick feet around the cones and back to save

10) Three Saves. Server 1 stands 5 yards out and throws the ball low for the Keeper to Save. The Keeper then must get up to Save from 2 and then 3 who volley in turn
11) Hurdles - Three Saves. Hop over hurdles and make Save. Use 2-3 hurdles in a line. Then move behind next hurdles and repeat to all three sets are completed.
